1. Thanks for Taking the Survey

Last week several subscribers took my most-recent survey. Thank you!

I found out that it would probably be profitable to create all three products I have been considering producing—the special report, "How to Charge More for Your Services and
Still Keep Your Clients," an ebook on "Marketing on a Shoestring," and a booklet on "How to Get More Subscribers for Your Ezine." Survey responders like them in the order
listed above, gave me feedback on how much they would be willing to pay, and offered some insightful ideas. One person suggested that I create "a series of short articles
to sell by subscription," which I thought had great merit.

Another person asked for ideas on how to start an ezine. And someone else said they learn better "hands-on" with videos or one-on-one support. And to that I reply, check out my mentoring program. I give you LOTS of support with it and you can attend all of my teleseminars TOTALLY F*REE! Here's where you can read about my mentoring program:

2. Six Beginning Steps to Creating an Information Empire

Everyone has something that they know better than the next guy. You may not think you have anything to say that others would want to hear, but you'd be surprised if you really sat
down and thought about it.

Your area of expertise can be in something related to work, but it doesn't have to be. Today, people are constantly looking for information. All kinds of information.

Step 1: Consider Your Expertise

Think about your business and personal knowledge, parenting skills, hobbies and pets, and then take a look to see what's being offered. Could you do a better job? Perhaps an ebook, special report, software product, or even a game is in your future.

Step 2: Research the Market

If I'm considering writing a book, I always do a subject search on Amazon.com to find out what's already available. It there's absolutely nothing on the topic, it may not be
the best choice because there might not be a market for the product, but this isn't always the case. More investigation would be required.

Next, I do an Internet search to find out how many people have searched for my topic in the past month. There are a couple of places to do that. The Google Suggest Search Tool can help you with this (and it's free).

It not only gives you suggestions as you type, but it also provides the number of searches performed in the past month on Google next to each suggested search term.

Or, another option is to go to Overture to see how many searches were performed in that search engine during the previous month using Overture's Search Term Suggestion Tool.

Step 3: Evaluate Your Research

Now that you know how many people are searching for the topic you were considering, do you think you should go forward with your idea? Does it look like it would be profitable?

Step 4: Consider Format Options

Would your product be best as an ebook, a special report, or a booklet? Should it be a software product? Are there other formats that might work better? Now's the time to decide.

Step 5: Create Your Product

You don't know how to write? Or you don't know how to create a computer program? No problem. Hire a ghost writer or programmer to do it for you. You can post your jobs for free at Elance.com or Rent-a-Coder.com and get help at a reasonable cost.

Or simply dictate your ideas into a tape recorder and hire a transcriber and editor to finish it for you.

Step 6: Market Your Product

There are lots of ways to promote and market your product. I can't go into them all in this short article, but some are:

  • Offer it for sale through ClickBank.
  • Let your affiliates know about it and sell it through them.
  • Promote it in your own ezine and on your content-filled website.
  • Create a mini site (a one-page website) just for this product.
  • Write artices and post them on the web and in other people's ezines.
  • And lots more.

And on Wednesday during our teleseminar with Janet Switzer, you can learn lots of great ways to take your signature product to create a publishing empire. Learn more and join
us for "Build Your Million-Dollar Information Empire" teleseminar when I interview Janet Switzer on Wednesday, April 27, 2-3 PM Eastern. Janet will also grill Joan Stewart, The Publicity Hound, on her products and services to help Joan expand her business from a "very good' business to an outstanding one. You really won't want to miss this one. Even if you can't attend, you should sign up because you'll get the MP3 recording automatically, whether you attend or not, so you can be on your way to making your first million (or second or third).

3. Build Business Quickly

Last week, Lesley M. Mize, a Brainy subscriber who runs a custom drapery workroom asked, "I work alone in my home, and have been in this business for five years. However,
about two-and-a-half years ago I moved to a new area so I had to start all over again. I need to do things to build up my clientele. Last year was my best year in gross sales, but
this year is starting slow. Can you give me ideas to help me rebuild my business?"

And Lois says...Lesley, moving to a new community is tough on your business. I know. I've done it twice in the course of my business. And it's almost like starting over, even if you keep a few clients when you move.

One of the quickest ways to building your business would be to find out who the movers and shakers are in your community and work very hard to get one or more of them to use your services, even if you have to discount your services (or give them away free) to get them to do it. Be sure to ask them to tell all their friends about you and your services.
But, of course, you'll do such an outstanding job that they will naturally tell everyone.

Join a few of the influential groups in your community. There's probably a women's business organization or two, a chamber of commerce, and others that are probably
appropriate for you to join. And when you do, be sure to get active. That's the way you really get to know others and they get to know and trust you.

Consider targeting the commercial establishments that might have a need for your services, like hotels, bed and breakfasts, maybe even theaters. That way you can likely get repeat business from them or their business associates.

Find the best interior designer and convince her to work with you. If you offer your services at a 25 percent discount to the designer if she sells your products to her
clients, the designer can make money simply by recommending you and then charging her clients full price for your services. Don't offer this as an exclusive, of course,
because you can give this same deal to all of the designers in the area. But if you can create a really special way for both of you to promote your businesses, you'll want to pick
just one joint venture partner. You don't want to make it seem like you are helping her competitors by offering the same opportunity to someone else, too.

And if this doesn't give you enough ideas, you can get tons of networking ideas from the teleseminar I did recently with Adam Urbanski, The Marketing Mentor. We recorded it and it's available in CD, MP3 and a printed transcript. Read more about it and order yours now.

4. Help This Brainy Marketer

Subscriber Sarah Cohen recently asked, "I am seeking to find places where I can give seminars on 'The Secret to Happiness' and 'Stress Less for Success.' How should I
promote these seminars? How do I find a list of locations, organizations and events that might be interested in having me present these topics?"

I have several ideas, but I'm sure my readers will offer some interesting solutions. How about it, Brainy readers? Send in your suggestions, and I'll print the responses next
week.

8. Resources for Marketers & Entrepreneurs

I have just listened to an exceptional teleseminar about how to find the information you are looking for on the Internet using Google and other search engines.

One tip that I found interesting was that if you want to find free ebooks that are written about a particular subject, you can go to Google and in the search box, type:

free parenting books file type: pdf

(where parenting is the subject of what you are looking for) and Google's results
will come back with all the free PDFs it has indexed on parenting.

You can listen to this "Search" seminar, too, by signing up here.

9. A Little Fun

From AhaJokes.com:

Watch what you say in your ads. Here are a few real ads from
around the U.S.:

  • In the window of a Kentucky appliance store: "Don't kill
your wife. Let our washing machine do the dirty work."

  • In a funeral parlor: "Ask about our layaway plan."

  • In a clothing store: "Wonderful bargains for men with 16 and
    17 necks."

  • In a Tacoma, Washington men's clothing store: "15 men's wool
suits, $10. They won't last an hour!"

  • On a shopping mall marquee: "Archery Tournament-Ears
    pierced"

Be sure to visit our past jokes and trivia. Take a look. You'll have fun!

10. Smell the Coffee...

Lately, I'm feeling more than a bit stressed. I go through these periods of time where I'm totally over-scheduled and over-committed. I don't ask for help and my family doesn't
often pitch in to lighten the load. I'll bet a few of you have been there, too, haven't you?

Anyway, when I get stressed, my body pays me back for treating it poorly. My muscles get tight, I might get a headache, I feel like I've had eight cups of caffeine coffee, I can't get to sleep and if I do, I wake up for long periods of time in the middle of the night, thinking about my "to do" list. And if someone mentions a disease, I'm sure I've either got it or it's coming. (Yes, I'm exaggerating, but I am a little bit of a hypochondriac so don't write me
all worried about this. I'm really fine.)

I was just reading about this problem in the latest issue of Organic Style. I love that magazine. Anyway, it's a problem that lots of women have but few men do. The article gave a lot of tips about how to sleep better, like:

  • Move the electronic clock away from the bed
  • Drink chamomile tea just before going to bed
  • Keep a notepad next to the bed to write things down in the middle of the night so your mind can let go of it
  • Take magnesium and valerian at night
  • Get more exercise
  • Take a bath
  • Listen to music and read an hour before bedtime
  • Keep your room dark
  • Do yoga
  • Stick to a schedule.

It also recommends locking the pets out of the bedroom. However, if I do that, they
whine, cry, pull at the door, etc., and I don't get a bit of sleep. Yes, I could lock them up someplace where I can't hear them, but it makes me feel like a mean old mommy, so I
    don't do it.

I do have more than my share of things to get done in the near future, but one of the benefits of being over-scheduled is that I soon remember to be more organized and thorough because I can't count on my memory. So I write all the steps down on my "to do" list instead of something very broad, and eventually things get better.

Rapidly changing subjects as I often do...I couldn't believe it on Sunday. We had snow! None of it stuck on the ground, but the flurries were big, fluffy flakes of snow. And it was
40 degrees outside. My flowers seem to be doing fine, though. The yellow daffodils are bright and cheery, the grape hyacinth is a deep blue/purple, and the "money plants"
have bloomed with lovely purple flowers. A few of my irises are budding and others haven't started yet. I'm looking forward to seeing all the color in the yard this year since
we planted hundreds of bulbs last fall.

I'm off to walk the dog now. It will help bring the stress level down. Have a blessed and profitable week.

Peace & Light,
Lois
