1. A Sad Goodbye to Corey Rudl (1970-2005)

Last Thursday, the Internet marketing industry lost a master marketer. Thirty-four-year-old Corey Rudl was killed in a racing accident when the car he was riding in careened out
of control and smashed into the wall during an amateur racing event sponsored by his Ferrari Club. According to the LA Times, Corey was dead at the scene.

Although I didn't know him personally, I certainly knew about Corey, and I bought a couple of his products. If you visit my websites, you'll notice the "hover ad" (the non-
pop-up ad that floats down inviting you to join my newsletter list). It's one of the products I bought from him.

Corey was one of the first really successful Internet marketers and he touched many lives around the world. Anyone who even dabbles in Internet marketing probably knew of him.
It seems so strange that someone that well known on the Net would not receive media coverage in all the major newspapers. Of course, it was covered by all the blogs. I
did a quick search on "Corey Rudl dies" and there were 971 postings on almost as many blogs. Quite a tribute for such a young life.

Yes, it's very sad to lose someone, especially someone so young, but let's remember that he was living a life he loved, doing what he wanted to do.

When it's your time to go, will you be able to say the same? As Oprah says, "Live your best life." That's what Corey did.

If you'd like to send a card to Corey Rudl's family, send it:

2. Help This Brainy Marketer

See this related information:

Subscriber Zenda Rogers of Armored Pest Control says, "I work for a gutter installation company and help my husband run a pest control company we recently started. Can
you help me learn how to promote his business?

"My husband worked for a top-name pest control company and when they found out he was taking steps to start his own company, they fired him. Since we were already on the path to start our own pest control company, this wasn't a major catastrophe. Nevertheless, it happened when we weren't expecting it. The problem is he signed a two-year noncompete agreement with his former company. We have adjusted and have researched territories outside of the area, even though these are about 45 minutes to an hour away from where we live. (We are considering moving there because of the benefits for our family.)

"We are a little lost about how to promote this company. It has only been a month, but we are both sitting on pins and needles trying to come up with ideas on how to get new customers. We have advertised in three newspapers in the counties he wants to service. We have printed door hangers and fliers and distributed some of them in the small towns. The result? Just one customer. Can you help us?"

I can think of several options, but I know our brainy readers will have lots of great ideas for you, too. How about it, readers? Send me your ideas and I'll post the best ones next week.

3. Summertime, And it's Time to Get Busy.

Ahhh, summertime. Longer days, a different routine, and generally, business slacks off--at least in the consulting business. Does that happen to you?

If it does, I want to tell you that business doesn't have to be slow just because it's summer. Here are a few ideas for keeping the pipeline filled:

  • Contact current and past clients.

Your best source of business will always be your current and past clients. Call them to see how they are doing. Take them to lunch or invite them to play golf. You'll be surprised how often they will say, "I really need to get such and such done. Can you help me?"

  • Ask for referrals.

Even if your clients don't need you right now, they probably know people who do. Be bold. Ask for referrals, and suggest that they give the person a call or meet with you and their
friend. Your clients don't know you're looking for more work if you don't tell them.

  • Become a more-effective networker.

When you go to networking events, learn to ask the hard questions. Once you get past the preliminary introductions, start asking things like, "How do you get the word out about
your company? How are sales? What have you done differently that caused this change?" (Of course, the questions would relate to things that YOU can help them with, not necessarily marketing questions like these are.)

If you'd like to learn more about how to network better and get more clients, take a look at the teleseminar I did a few months ago with Adam Urbanski, The Marketing Mentor. We give you loads of tips on what to do. The teleseminar is available in CD, MP3 or written transcript format. Read more and order here.

  • Create a direct-mail campaign with a compelling offer.

Before things get too slow, create a clever, interesting or unusual direct-mail campaign to drum up business. This can be as simple as three postcards, each mailed two weeks
apart. Make sure your offer is a good one that prospects won't be able to resist!

  • Get on the phone.

Getting new clients is all about numbers. If you talk to enough prospects, some of them are bound to "bite." Overcome your fear, write a script, pick up the phone, and start
dialing.

And if all else fails, spend your extra time updating your website, creating new products and services, and test marketing your ideas. At least you'll be using your time wisely!

In an ebook I co-authored with Jim Wilson of Selling Strategies, Inc., we put together 52 great tips to help you learn to sell better. You'll learn tons of techniques to help you get more clients. Read more about "52 Ready-to-Go Sales
Meetings: 52 Ways to Help Your Salespeople (and Yourself) Win at the Game of Sales.

4. AdSense—An Interesting Passive Income Generator

I've been studying Joel Comm's ebook and newsletters for awhile now and my AdSense revenue is climbing. If I had more time to work on generating targeted website traffic and
update my website with content, I'm sure my AdSense income would grow exponentially.

Do you have AdSense ads on your website and blog? You probably should! These are the ads that are placed on your website by Google, and if people click on them when visiting your website, you get paid for the click.

Joel Comm makes $500 a day with AdSense (the Google ads that appear on websites) and he wants you to do it, too. His ebook, "What Google Never Told You About Making Money with AdSense!" is a very hands-on ebook that can help you learn how others went from making a few pennies to hundreds every day. (It's pretty complicated, so you may not have the same results.) The ebook is on sale now for just $79 (regularly $99). It even comes with a "100% No- Hassle Money-Back Guarantee!" 9. Smell the Coffee...

Another week, and not much closer to finishing the painting in the family room and adjoining sitting room. I did get most of the walls primed, but there's still lots to do. Maybe next weekend.

We did have one exciting happening over the weekend. Our bird feeder in the front yard was almost completely demolished. The pole was bent, bird feeder on the ground in pieces, and all the suet was gone. We figured it must have been a pretty determined bear! And we didn't hear a thing. I sure would have liked to see it.

Don and I actually went to a movie over the weekend. We saw "Cinderella Man" with Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger. It's a boxing movie and at times, pretty gory, but it was good.

Have a good and profitable week.

Peace & Light,
Lois
