I don't know about you, but I keep trying to figure out how to improve my search engine rankings and my revenue from ads that display on my websites. So, two of the new articles I've posted relate to improving your search engine ranking.

3. Get More Publicity from Winning an Honor

Last week, subscriber Linda Joyce Lipinski wrote, "I love your idea to reach the 50+ age group with fresh new products that appeal to them. That was my idea when I created my
product, A Legacy To Remember(R), in 1999 . Our album was winner of the National Mail Order Association's Made in America - Hot Product Contest. How can I use this fact for publicity and get more mileage out of this honor?"

JoAnn Hines, the Packaging Diva, says, "Not only the products themselves but the packaging needs to appeal to the 50+ generation. You'd be surprised to find out what they want. I'm working on a new seminar entitled: "Packaging for the ultimate consumer: Baby Boomers." And Lois says, JoAnn's response didn't answer the question, but I thought it was something y'all would be interested in so I included it here. And now to answer the question...

 

There are a number of ways you can use this honor to get publicity and to create more sales opportunities.

  • You can add a line to your email signature that says, "Winner of the National Mail Order Assn's Made in America--Hot Product Contest," and everyone will see it when you send
    your emails, post to forums and discussion groups, and respond to questions like this in other people's newsletters.
  • You can write articles about preserving memories, keeping diaries, and alternatives to scrapbooking and publish them online and offline in magazines, websites and ezines that reach your target market. Your resource box, of course, would include a reference to your honor.
  • You can add this honor on your website in a bold manner so that people who visit see it clearly.
  • You can partner with website owners who target the same market in promotions they create or you develop jointly.
  • You could create a direct mail postcard campaign that teases the recipients into visiting your website or calling you for more information about your product. It should consist of at least three mailings and build up the anticipation and suspense about the product. And, of course, it would include a reference to your award. You can buy a targeted mailing list from many list brokers. I've had good luck with http://www.infousa.com so consider trying that one. It allows you to target particular zip codes, demographics, etc., so you can winnow it down to the exact target market you want to reach.
  • You could choose some very influential older folks and give them a F*REE copy of the book in exchange for telling ten (or more) of their friends about the product.
  • You could even go on a vacation where you stay in elder hostels and talk it up to everyone you meet. I'm sure you'll sell some of your product that way!
  • You could create an affiliate (sales rep) program and pay others a commission for selling or promoting your product.
  • You could develop a pay-per-click advertising campaign and advertise using Google or Overture programs.

My contacts are wedding coordinators and they are constantly changing. Nobody stays around more than 6 months. 9. Smell the Coffee...

Momma Betty couldn't have been more surprised about her Surprise 80th Birthday Party! Almost everyone was there. Her sister picked her up about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, saying
she was going to take her for a visit to the "birthday fairy." It was so cute, Momma Betty thought her younger sister might be trying to fix her up with a man. ;-) She didn't have a clue what was going on. When she walked in to the church fellowship hall, she was utterly shocked. (And we were very happy she didn't faint or have a heart attack!)

Don put together a PowerPoint presentation of old and new photos, showing Momma Betty's life, and every time little Madeline, our two-year-old grandchild, saw someone she knew, she said, "Look Momma Betty." or "Look Granny Lolis." (She can't say my name yet. I think I'll forever be "Granny Lolis.)

Madeline's parents talk to her all the time, so she has an extensive vocabulary for a two-year-old. My favorite is, "I'm a genius." I'm sure there will be no lack of self- esteem as she grows up!
