1. Would You Like to Retire Early? Or Just Retire?
As Baby Boomers age, I often hear them say, "I don't think
I'm every going to be able to retire." One thing after
another has prevented them from saving enough to retire in
their 60s, let alone EARLY (which, of course, is the dream
of most people). And today, people live longer than they did
in the past so you need to have a BIG pot of money or
continued passive residual income to make the dream of
retiring a reality.
"What's passive residual income have to do with marketing?"
you ask. Well, let me explain...
"Passive residual income" is "income generated with minimal
work from your investments such as interest, dividends, or
real-estate rentals." So how does that relate to marketing
or making money online?
Well, when you're working online, your biggest investment is
time. Time to learn what you need to learn to generate
income, time to build a good website and create good
products, time to develop incoming links and optimize your
site, time to choose and promote affiliate programs, time to
create your own products, and so on.
Your "real estate" online consists of your website(s),
ezines, and email lists. Creating these takes loads of time
up front, but if you put passive income generating
techniques to work right from the start, you'll soon be able
to sit back and collect the "rental" and "interest" checks.
If you'd like to learn 7 easy ways to generate ongoing
passive income, then you should sign up for our March 2
teleseminar with Lynn Terry, an expert in passive income
generation! And, when you sign up for the premium package
(which is ONLY $47), you'll receive a FREE copy
of her hot-off-the-press Passive Income Guide (Lynn will
sell this after the seminar for $37)! In it, Lynn will show
you exactly how she CUT HER HOURS by 2/3 last year, and
still DOUBLED HER INC0ME! Her step-by-step guide can help
you do the same thing this year.

2. Does Networking Turn You Into a Bumbling Idiot?
Do you know all of the basics for networking? Can you make
conversation that is interesting and intriguing to the
people you meet? Or do you fumble around like a bumbling
idiot?
Here are 7 ways to make yourself more comfortable and
successful when you attend meetings to network with
potential clients:
1. Learn where to put your name tag.
It's simple. Your name tag goes on your right side, above
your breast. That's because you shake hands with your right
hand and the other person's eye naturally follows the line
of your arm to your name tag. It makes the whole process
smooth.
2. Bring lots of business cards and know what to do with
them.
Business cards are for getting business. They aren't for
papering a room. They should be given out when someone asks
for them, and not before. They are also for putting in the
door prize bowl because if you win, everyone hears your name
and the name of your company.
Make your card memorable. There are many ways to do this--with an outstanding logo, useful tip, and a statement that
you give away a free product when they subscribe to your
newsletter. A business card with your picture on it is
especially memorable.
3. Know what to do with the business cards you receive.
When someone gives you a business card, jot down a note or
two on the back, along with the date and where you met the
person, and whether they asked you to contact them. Then put
it in your LEFT jacket pocket. This keeps it separate from
your own business cards (in your right pocket) that you are
giving away. When you get back to your office, add all of
this information to your database and follow up with a note
or a phone call. But don't contact them immediately, because
they won't think you are efficient, they will think you have
nothing better to do. Wait a day or two.
4. Learn to make useful small talk.
Think of networking like you are on a date with a brand new,
potential sweetie. Ask pertinent questions. Keep them
talking. Consider using Dale Carnegie's 5 topics to keep the
conversation going: Where to you WORK and what do you do?
Where do you LIVE? What's your FAMILY like? Do you TRAVEL?
(Where did you go recently? Favorite spot?) What do you do
in your LEISURE time? Of course, you'll want to probe a bit
on certain topics--like work and anything you have in common
with your "date."
5. Here are two ways to become comfortable the minute you
walk into the room.
The first thing I do is head for the bar or the food. You
should, too, because once you get something in your hand,
you can take time to survey the room. Then, find someone who
is alone and talk to that person. Or look for someone you
have always wanted to meet and approach him.
6. Know how to introduce yourself with a little intrigue.
It takes practice to make your introduction interesting, yet
succinct. Trust me, if you talk longer than 60 seconds when
you're introducing yourself, you'll start to see people's
eyes glaze over. Make your introduction short -- 30 seconds
or less -- and creative. Think about asking a question. Try
to identify a problem and show that you are the person to
solve it.
7. Take on a role.
If you are very uncomfortable at networking events, it would
probably help you to volunteer for the committee so you are
forced to speak to people. Perhaps you can check people in
when they arrive. Or be an "ambassador" who is responsible
to approach people to welcome them. You'll be surprised how
easy it is to speak to someone if you take on a role to
play.

3. Selling Stock Photos to the Hispanic Market
Last week subscriber Lissette Colón with Getty Images in
New York, a stock photo agency, asked how she could increase
her sales to the Hispanic market. Marina Rivón of Maremar
Graphic Design in Puerto Rico
offered a wealth of advice:
"As a potential client of Lissette, she would have to prove
to me that Getty has real Puerto Rican Hispanic-looking type
photography. Down here we constantly meet the challenge from
our clients to search for stock photos of Latin-looking
people for our marketing materials, but stock photo houses
in the States seldom have materials that meet these
criteria. A Latin person from Guatemala does not necessarily
look the same as one from Puerto Rico ... although sometimes
they might.
"Also, if I were her I would try to produce a monthly post
card campaign in Spanish using some of these Latin images
and send them out to the advertising agencies in her target
area.
"Here is the link for the PR Advertising Agency Association. She should also look at the Adnotas site which has a lot of
useful links. Sales and Marketing Executives might be a good target also. And this might be useful."
You can also learn lots of ways to help you improve your
selling by reading the ebook I wrote with Jim Wilson, Sales
Success! Strategies for Women. Read more about it or
download it and be learning new ideas in just minutes.

4. Help This Brainy Marketer
One of my subscribers, Toni from Beaconhill Books Catalogue,
writes:
"I circulate a book catalogue by mail displaying ads from
self- and small-press published authors and writer-related
businesses. These same ads are also published FREE on my
website. I have trouble getting enough authors/advertisers
signed up to finance the mailing. I would love some tips on
how to achieve this. I have been on list-servs for self-
published authors for the last couple of years. Thanks for
whatever advice you can share."
How about it, readers? Can you help Toni catch the interest
and advertising dollars of her market? Send me your ideas
and I'll print them next
week.

5.Request!
"I'm looking for testimonials. If you send me testimonials
about my newsletters, websites or products, I'll put the
best ones on my site. It's a great linking strategy. And
don't forget to send me your 72 dpi photo!"
Thanks to Rob Grede and Nancy Hightshoe, who sent in
testimonials. You can see theirs here:

9. Smell the Coffee...
I need your opinion. Apparently my Valentine's gift to my
husband was a funny one. I didn't think so. I thought it was
a kind gesture, and something we both could use. But when he
told some folks at work, they all thought it was hysterical.
Do you?
I gave him what I thought was a wonderful book, 1001 Ways
to be Romantic by Gregory J.P. Godek. Write and tell me
what you think.
I also spent good quality time with him over the weekend and
fixed him a scrumptious dinner on Saturday night. So I'm not
ALL bad. What did you do for your sweetie?
The kids have been sick for a week or so and are finally on
the mend. Now Don is feeling under the weather. I keep
eating my oranges! I hope you and yours are all healthy.
And finally...There's a bill called the "Breast Cancer
Patient Protection Act" which will require insurance
companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for
patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the
"drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home
just hours after surgery against the wishes of their doctor,
still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage
tubes still attached.
Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with
a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half
the House signed on.
PLEASE sign the petition by clicking here.
You need not give more than your name and zip code.
Peace & Light,
Lois
